History

Once a segregated school, now a symbol of hope and determination! The Court Street School Education Community Center (CSSECC) was formed in April 1990 as a non-profit tax-exempt organization. Led by its President, Ralph Allen, the purpose of CSSECC was to restore the Court Street School for use as an Education Center and to preserve it as an African-American historic landmark.

In all, the group received more than $800,000 in grants to restore the facility. The building became an official historical site in 1995.
